IndoxylDesigns (the original name of this website) wasn’t such a great idea for a brand/domain name because it’s hard to remember and hard to communicate to someone verbally. So, I decided to start looking for a new, more effective name for my website. In order to pick a good name there were too main factors I had to consider: easy to remember and easy to communicate.

Both of these could be first achieved through picking a relatively short name (3-8 characters). Where could I even start with picking the right name? I decided to go with using a Latin word as the brand name since I’m taking Latin in school and I’m somewhat familiar with it, and Latin is so ubiquitous (as you most probably know, most romance languages, including English, originate from Latin). A quick flip through my Latin textbook and I had found the word I was looking for: “faber - skillful; ingenious;” which I feel were representative of me and my work. Then I went on to append ‘designs’ to the domain name to emphasize the fact that the website has something to do with designing - Faber Designs. The name is both short (faber is 5 characters in length and is quite easy to remember) and the pronunciation is quite unambiguous (fay-bur; like saber). So remember, keep it short, memorable, and easy to communicate.

On Monday, after upgrading my WordPress to version 2.1 (using Fantastico) I realized that my site was not working. To my dismay, I found that this was the result of me being careless about following the instructions for the upgrade. Worse, I forgot to backup the content before upgrading WordPress. So, I had to re-install WordPress, reinstall all plugins and add all content, again. Luckily, Google saved my time by caching my site, so I just had to copy and paste the content from Google’s cache to my WordPress site, page-by-page. Now, All my posts are gone (not that I had too many of them anyways) and I wasted a lot of time just because I forgot to backup. Anyways, at least I learned something today: make sure you backup your WordPress blog and other files at least once a week (I’m going to do it almost everyday from now :D).
